Diamonds and Cole: Cole Sage Mystery #1 (A Cole Sage Mystery) by Micheal Maxwell is a fast, enjoyable read. I gave it four stars.
The introduction to Cole tells of him reminiscing as he eats a hamburger when he really wants comfort food he doesn't know where to find.
After an unpleasant encounter with a homeless man he laughed and cried. "He tossed his sunglasses onto the stack of newspapers on the seat next to him, and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. He never felt so lonely, and he was used to being alone.
This was different, though; it was a deep aching sort of my-mother-just-died-and-nobody-knows-my-name freefall into alone."
