Cop Town: A Novel

Cop Town: A Novel - Karin Slaughter Five stars from start to finish. I received an e-copy of this book free from NetGalley for review.

Cop Town is Karin Slaughter's first stand alone book. Her Will Trent books are already best sellers.

She brings Atlanta in the '70's to life with her words. Kate Murphy is a rookie cop. The day she started there was a murder of another cop & a massive manhunt was underway.

A serial killer has targeted cops. Will she survive her first day on the job with the Atlanta police department?

The police force is divided into old school & new ways of thinking. The dialogue is brash & it's clear that women aren't welcomed by the hard drinking Boys in Blue. Even the existing female cops have no patience with rookies.

Maggie Lawson joined her uncle and brother in the police force but she's clearly unaccepted by them. She needs their unavailable approval. Some of the dialogue is painful to read. It is reminiscent of a time when blatant prejudice of race & gender was rampant.

It caused a sleepless night because I had to read just one more chapter. It kept me guessing until the painful end.
