The Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street: A Novel
I received a free kindle copy of The Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street by Susan Jane Gilman & published by Grand Central Publishing from Net Galley in exchange for a fair review.
The beginning was interesting with the trip to New York instead of Africa. The dissolution of a family was brought about by alcoholism, crowded living conditions & poverty. An tragic wagon accident makes the main character Malka Treynovsky live with another family. She developed a hard sarcastic shell to survive & became a bossy dislikable woman. This book needs a glossary for 'Yiddish' expressions. It was difficult to do a google search every other sentence. For this, I gave it only three stars.
