Soul of the Desert
I received a free kindle copy of Soul of the Desert by Maria Schneider, from the author for fair review. I gave it the full five stars.
I think it is sad, but brilliantly written. This story about Bo, a young man escaping the mob in New York by being transported to New Mexico. This enables him to escape Rand, his brother's fate. Rand kidnapped a couple of people to blackmail one of them into helping his brother by holding the other co-worker hostage.
There is climate & cultural shock. Bo is accepted into the family & learns how to be loved for the first time in his life. He also learns to listen to the rhythm of the desert. He learns responsibility & develops moral fiber from The Man.
There's a dual story line that incorporates the two states. It is a haunting story. There are no easy solutions. I'm impressed by the writing of Maria Schneider & look forward to more of her brilliant writing.
