The Last Survivors by Bobby Adair and T.W. Piperbrook

The Last Survivors: A Dystopian Society in a Post Apocalyptic World (Volume 1) - Bobby Adair, T.W. Piperbrook

The Last Survivors, Book 1 of the Last Survivors Series by Bobby Adair and T.W. Piperbrook is a futuristic-dystopian post-apocalyptic book. I gave it four stars.

"Tales recounted by his father's soldiers around the hearths at night, stories he thought had been exaggerated to frighten a small boy, had proven true. Men were no longer men, but beasts. Beasts whose shoulders, spines and elbows grew bony fungal warts, and whose skulls grew disfigured crests." The disease was spread by wind-borne spores that could mutate a person. They stank and ate human flesh.

General Blackthorn led six hundred cavalrymen three days before and they fought with bravery against the spore-infected creatures. Now only seventy-five were left. They did not fear even though it was likely none of them would return home. His son was one of the few who did and became the new General Blackthorn.

There was a ritual Cleansing Day to check to see if any of the villagers were infected. If they had any of the signs they were forced into a funeral pyre and burned alive.

When she had met her husband Ethan, she thought she could have a good life with him. "The illusion of choice was better than having no choice at all." Now that William was 'smudged' they had to run away. Ella and William escaped the Cleansing and left Brighton.

"'I'm not sure, William. I heard Father Winthrop talk about it once at the devotional service.'

'What did he say?"

Ella laughed and thought about it. 'I honestly don't know. He's full of more meaningless words than any man I've ever met.'

They both laughed."

Ella and William were attacked by the monster demons and rescued by the Warden Bray. He then joined them on their way to Davenport.

"The dying light was like a fourth companion, keeping them on track and pushing them along."

I received a complimentary kindle copy from Amazon. That did not change my opinion for this review.
