The Fifth Petal by Brunonia Barry is an intense, suspense-filled book with numerous twists and turns. It kept me guessing until near the end. I gave it five stars.
It has magic and mystery. It has tales of witchcraft and banshees and visions of blood. There are interwoven threads of ancestry and acrimony. John Rafferty is Salem's police chief who hopes to solve a cold case from 1989 where three women were killed. The main suspect is Rose Whelan, a former historian who is now mentally ill and homeless. She listens to trees.
I received a complimentary Kindle copy from Crown Publishing and NetGalley. That did not change my opinion for this review.
This book is in pre-order status until January 24, 2017. I could not leave a review on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
