Dr. Kate Turner is a vet filling in for the permanent vet in a small town. She is kept busy treating a variety of animals & illnesses. She received news that her friend Claire Birnham had committed suicide. She’s in shock. She decided to investigate because she didn’t believe that her friend with such a zest for life could have taken her own life.

There are many twists & turns in this story & a supply of suspects, even though the police seem to latch on to the least likely of them, an employee of the vet’s office, Eugene.
“‘Eugene would never harm anything he loved.’ My instincts told me that was true. The Eugene I worked with never showed any anger toward any animal or person he worked with.”
Can Dr. Kate solve this mystery before the killer ends her life?
I gave this mystery five stars because the characters were well drawn & it kept me guessing. I will look for more of Eileen Brady’s books.
