Audrey (cow)

Audrey (cow) - Dan Bar-el I received a free kindle copy of Audrey (cow) by Dan Bar-el, publishers Random House of Canada Limited, Tundra Books from NetGalley for fair review. It is almost a four star.

There are thirty unique voices in the telling of Audrey's story. While they were clearly labeled & spoke with distinctly different styles, there were times it became difficult to switch back & forth.

The story is a cleverly written one, if you can get past all the changes in voice. The illustrations are delightful. My favorite is when Ernie & Audrey are standing looking over the fence at Buster, the pig. Ernie's expression is priceless.

The farm animals & forest animals all conspire together to help Audrey escape her fate of the slaughterhouse. She writes poetry & savors all things in nature. She befriends a fawn since she had to leave Ernie behind.

Can Audrey escape her destiny? Will Ernie miss her forever? Can she escape the slinking cougar in the forest? Which animal was most likely to help Audrey?
